OLYMPIA AMATEUR WORLD SHOW DOWN – MOSCOW, RUSSIA

OLYMPIA AMATEUR WORLD SHOW DOWN – MOSCOW, RUSSIA

Last weekend, the 7th and final Olympia Amateur of the 2015 contest season was held in Moscow, Russia. The contest was the third Amateur Olympia and professional qualifier held in three consecutive weeks. This contest was of particular note because not only does it qualify the champion for IFBB Professional status (similar to the other Olympia Amateur contests,) but also grants them automatic entry the following year into the Mr. Olympia contest, an event typically reserved for IFBB Pro League contest winners. This year’s Overall Champion was Iranian, Babak Akbarnia; who competed in the 85 Kg. class. If professional status and automatic Olympia qualification weren’t enough, Akbarnia returned home with $6,000 as well.

As expected, the contest had a large international presence, with twenty-two nations represented in total. However, four of five athletes competing alongside Babak for the overall title were also Iranian; Mohsen Zarebayegi, Khalil Asadi and Mogtaba Notarki. The contest concluded a great season for the nation of Iran, who was well represented on the international circuit. Algerian Zoheir Mihoubi, the odd man out in the final pose-down.
