Canadian Nationals Wrap-Up, 2015

Canadian Nationals Wrap-Up, 2015

In recent years we’ve seen plenty of high-level talent emerge from the Canadian bodybuilding scene, with some going on to do damage in the pro ranks. The most recent Canadian National Bodybuilding Championships was no exception to this trend, ushering in a new crop of notable future stars in the IFBB.

Heading into the show both a heavy favorite to win the Super-Heavyweight and Overall titles was 5% Nutrition athlete, Paulo “The Freak” Almeida – he did not disappoint. Taking the stage at over two hundred and sixty pounds, Almeida overwhelmed the competition with IFBB pro-quality muscle; claiming victory as well as the pro card, despite not bringing the level of conditioning that some may have expected.

In the Middleweight division our friend Mahmoud Al Durrah brought in his best look ever, he dominating the field in impressive fashion, and put to bed the ghosts of last year’s events and failures in the process. The now two time national champion took the stage noticeably larger, even after sucking down to middles from Light-Heavyweights the year prior. Al Durrah was in much better condition than what we saw from him a year ago, and the judges decided to reward him with another national title.

A Pro-Card was also given to Heavyweight winner, Mike Cipriani. Cipriani may have had the best legs in the entire show, and won a heavyweight class that was filled with talent of both Veteran as well as emerging talent.
